Types of Ringtones

There are three types of ringtones available for mobile phones: monotones, polytones, and realtones. Each one has their own distinctive qualities that make them an attractive choice for mobile phone users.

Monotones, which are also known as monophonic ringtones, are simpler melodies that are digitally created by the sound synthesizer on your phone. They are similar to the sounds you would hear from an old gaming console or personal computer. Monotones are typically heard more often on older mobile phones rather than newer models due to nature of older phones having compatibility issues and hardware limitations to support the newer types of ringtones.

Polytones, which are also known as polyphonic ringtones, involve more complex melodies that are similar to monotones, but can also include multiple layers of music at once. These kinds of ringtones are usually recorded in MIDI format, although they support other formats as well. Polytones are the most popular form of ringtones available on the market today, although they are losing their market share to the increasingly popular realtones ringtone type.

Realtones are simply ringtones from an actual recording of a song. They are exact or nearly exact recordings of the actual song.
