New Kinds of Ringtones and TrendsAside from the technological aspects regarding the types of ringtones that are available for mobile phones (as discussed in the “Types of Ringtones” section), there are different kinds of ringtones that can be downloaded to your phone. These range from ringtones that feature celebrity voices and jokes, but the most well known ringtone that has been a substantial part of the recent trend is called the Mosquito Ringtone. The Mosquito Ringtone is known as the ringtone that a large proportion of adults are unable to hear, but kids and younger adults can. Because of this amazing feature of the Mosquito Tone, the latter folks have downloaded these ringtones to their cell phones to prevent their parents or teachers from hearing the ringtone. One can only imagine how frustrating this has become for parents and teachers, as kids and younger adults can now get away with their cell phones ringing without any of former individuals knowing. The way the Mosquito Ringtone works is the use of a high frequency sound that can be detected by the more undamaged ears of younger people, as opposed to older people who have had to bear the brunt of ear damage throughout their lifetime (which is due to the natural circumstance of dealing with every day noises and sounds). It can thus be said that the ability for one to hear higher pitched noises is directly correlated with the amount of damage done to the ear throughout one’s lifetime. More specifically, as hearing ability degrades, there is a negative linear relationship of this factor when mapped versus age. Typical 18 year olds can hear frequencies around the 16 kilohertz range, whereas a 30 year old can hear frequencies around the 14 kilohertz range. The approximation of this linear relationship of frequency detection versus age can be quantified as a linear 1 kilohertz drop per 10 age units. |
