When Nextel was on its own, we have to admit that network performance was not the greatest. We would get dropped calls and static on the cell phone quite frequently. But when Nextel and Sprint joined forces, their network performance improved substantially, and because of that, we must say that this service excels now. Coverage throughout the world is excellent, and roaming capabilities are great. We were connected in most areas of the continental United States when we drove from the West Coast to the Midwest, with few dark pockets with no reception. However, it is most likely possible that no cellular service would have reception in those areas. Therefore, Nextel has definitely shown its quality service based on this experience.

Regarding data network performance, it is simply excellent. Data transfer rate is fast, and bandwidth for cell phone to data transmission was large. We could download large pages on the internet very quickly once a laptop was connected to the cell phone via a USB port. Also, because the cell phone coverage is so widespread, we feel comfortable to take a Nextel phone anywhere we go when we need to use it for internet purposes when used with a laptop. When combined with the Blackberry Unlimited Email and Web service, this is a difficult price to beat, since you are pretty much getting unlimited internet each month for $49.99. You could potentially even replace your DSL or cable service with Nextel service if you really wanted to. This is how good the Nextel data service is.
