Summary and Background

Alltel is one of the lesser known cell phone companies that exist, although its dominance continues to hold ground in the continental United States. They currently offer their cell phone services in 36 states, but exclude the more populated states such as California, Oregon, and Washington. However, Alltel is provided in the less populated states, such as Montana and Idaho. They are based in Arkansas, and continue to expand their services in other areas of the United States.

Alltel has excellent partnerships with the better known cell phone companies, such as Sprint and Verizon. Because of their great partnerships, the roaming capabilities on Alltel phones are quite superior, in addition to being low cost. Therefore, a user will experience seamless cell phone usage on the Alltel and other networks when traveling across the United States. However, there are drawbacks as well in the roaming capabilities, as these partners tend to have functionality in the 800 to 1900 megahertz CDMA band, which causes limitations due to the cell phones that Alltel offers. As such, Alltel customers typically have to deal with using phones that support more restricted cell phone modes.

Complementing Alltel’s superior coverage support is their excellent choice of phones. Their plans are also very affordable, and cater to all types of users from the casual user to the more business-related folks who demand more minutes from their cell phone services. In addition, they provide additional services to cell phone users such as internet and television related services. This makes Alltel a good choice for the all-around services that they offer.
